You will apply advanced human services skills to collaboratively resolve current issues in diverse for-profit, nonprofit, and government settings.

Outcome goals and graduates' proficiency levels

Each doctoral program and specialization is designed around expected learning outcomes (see Expected Program Outcomes below). End of program performance is determined during the comprehensive exam and dissertation process. Because the work is unique to each learner's dissertation or research topic and the criteria for evaluation are aligned to that work, we do not collect data on proficiency levels for doctoral programs.

Quality and Professional Relevance

  • All human services faculty have doctoral degrees.
  • The DHS curriculum is designed around the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSE) National Standards and the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) Generic Human Services Professional Competencies.
  • Capella is one of the first universities in the country to offer both PhD in Human Services and Doctor of Human Services programs.

Expected Program Outcomes

  1. Apply leadership principles and strategies to provide community support and/or direct care to for profit, nonprofit, and government organizations.
  2. Evaluate programs to help manage diverse for profit, nonprofit, and government organizations.
  3. Use data analytics and technology to manage organizations and to create and guide programs to best meet the needs of the community.
  4. Advocate across diverse settings and stakeholders for the identified needs of the community or groups.
  5. Apply professional ethics and cultural competence in the human services profession.
  6. Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and respectful of the diversity, dignity, and integrity of others consistent with the expectations for members of the Human Services field.
